Aluminum Gangway Kits

Aluminum Gangways & Gangway Kits for Floating Docks

A floating dock is only as functional as the gangway that connects it to shore. Rolling Barge aluminum gangway kits are adjustable for water level and tidal changes, rated for heavy foot traffic, and built to the same lifetime aluminum standard as our dock kits. Available in multiple lengths to fit your waterfront installation.

What Is an Aluminum Gangway?

A gangway is the walkway that bridges the gap between a fixed shoreline and a floating dock. Unlike a stationary ramp, a floating dock gangway must adjust as the water level changes — rising and falling while maintaining safe footing for anyone walking between shore and dock. Rolling Barge aluminum gangways are engineered to do exactly this across the full range of water level variation.

Gangway vs. Dock Ramp — What's the Difference?

A dock ramp is a fixed, angled walkway. A gangway is a hinged or adjustable walkway that compensates for water level changes. For floating docks, a gangway is always the correct solution — a fixed ramp would create dangerous angles as the dock rises and falls. All Rolling Barge gangway kits are designed specifically for use with floating dock systems.

Aluminum Gangway Kit Features & Specifications

Adjustable for Water Level & Tidal Changes

Rolling Barge gangway kits use a hinged shore connection that allows the gangway to pivot as the dock rises and falls with water level. The range of adjustment accommodates seasonal lake level changes, tidal movement, and drawdown in reservoir systems.

Lifetime Aluminum Construction — No Maintenance Required

The gangway frame is aluminum — the same material as our dock and bridge kits. No painting, no rust treatment, no seasonal maintenance. Aluminum performs in both fresh and salt water environments without degradation.

Dock Gangways for Sale — Sizing & Length Options

Rolling Barge aluminum gangways are available in multiple lengths to span the distance from your shoreline to your floating dock. The right length depends on your dock’s setback from shore and your expected water level variation range. Submit a quote request with your measurements and we’ll confirm the correct gangway length.

What's Included in Every Gangway Kit

What You Supply:

How to Install an Aluminum Gangway

Connecting to Your Floating Dock

The dock end of the gangway connects to the outer edge of your floating dock frame using the included dock connection hardware. The connection is hinged to allow the gangway to pivot as the dock moves on the water. No permanent modification to the dock is required.

Shore Anchor & Connection

The shore end of the gangway rests on a shore anchor point — typically a concrete pad, embedded post, or shore mount (not included). The hinged shore connector allows the gangway to angle up or down as water level changes without lifting off the anchor point.

Gangways for Floating Docks — Applications

Residential Floating Dock Gangways

The most common application — a single gangway connecting a home floating dock to the shoreline. Available in lengths to accommodate most residential setbacks and water level ranges.

Boat Dock Gangways

Boat docks require gangways wide enough and strong enough for regular heavy foot traffic, carrying gear, and the occasional load of equipment. Rolling Barge boat dock gangways are rated for this use and are compatible with our floating dock kit system.

New vs. Used Aluminum Gangways

Used aluminum gangways appear on the market periodically, but sizing, connection compatibility, and structural condition are difficult to verify secondhand. A Rolling Barge gangway kit is sized precisely to your dock and shoreline configuration and ships new with a known load rating and structural spec. For most buyers, the certainty of a new kit outweighs any price advantage of a used gangway.

Frequently Asked Questions — Aluminum Gangways

The right gangway length depends on two factors: the horizontal distance from your shoreline to the outer edge of your dock, and the vertical range of water level change at your site. A longer gangway creates a shallower angle and a more comfortable walking surface. Contact us with your measurements and we’ll recommend the right length.

Rolling Barge gangway kits are designed to work with our floating dock kit system. Compatibility with other dock systems depends on the dock’s edge configuration and connection points. Contact us with your dock specifications and we’ll advise on compatibility.

A gangway connects a fixed shore point to a floating dock. A floating walkway is a freestanding walkway that floats on the water surface — used for marinas, fish farms, or large waterfront facilities. If you need a floating walkway rather than a gangway, contact us to discuss your project.
